1.)
How long does it take?
1.5-2 hours some rare cases 3hr
A dental cleaning for dogs generally takes about an hour and a half, but this can vary depending on the individual dog. Some dogs may only take an hour and a half, while others might need up to two hours. Larger or more nervous dogs sometimes require up to three hours, as I always prioritize their comfort and work at their pace, cleaning one tooth at a time. Every dog's tarter and plaque buildup is different, so the exact time frame is tailored to each dog's needs to ensure a stress-free experience.
2.)
Can I stay?
Unfortunately NO.
3.)
How often do I clean my dog's teeth?
Every 6months to a year depending on your dog.
For the safety and effectiveness of the anesthesia-free teeth cleaning process, owners cannot stay with their pet during the procedure. Dogs often act differently when their owners are present, becoming distracted and less responsive to my instructions. They tend to continuously look back at their owner, which prevents me from getting their full attention. Since I need the dog to remain still and focused to clean its teeth properly, having its head move around can be problematic. Therefore, I apologize, but for the best care of your pet, owners cannot stay during the cleaning.
Every dog needs their teeth brushed at home daily or at least once a week to prevent tarter buildup that can't removed by brushing alone. Additionally, a professional cleaning is necessary every six months to a year, depending on the dog. Typically, small dogs require cleanings every four to six months, while larger dogs can go six months to a year between cleanings. Regular at-home care combined with professional cleanings helps maintain your dog's dental health.
4.)
Do we pull teeth?
NO.
No, we do not pull teeth because this procedure requires the dog to be put under anesthesia. A dog's tooth roots are very long and extend into the bone, so the entire root must be surgically removed. Attempting to pull teeth without anesthesia risks breaking the tooth and causing an infection. It's crucial to perform extractions properly to ensure the dog's health and safety.
5.)
Can I give my dog meds before cleaning?
YES,But first ask your pets Vet.
Owners can give their dog medicine before the procedure to help with anxiety, but they should always consult their vet first. Melatonin or children's Benadryl (Not Adult, as it's toxic)can be given 1ml per pound of weight for very mild anxiety. If the dog is anxious and has been seen by their vet within the last year, they can ask their vet over the phone for a prescription for acepromazine, trazodone, or gabapentin, which typically costs around $20.
